Bocock Brothers Cigars is owned and operated by brothers Bryant & Douglas Bocock and was launched in Houston in 2019. Bryant handles the Honduras side of selecting, blending, and manufacturing the cigars. Douglas handles the sales and marketing side stateside. In January of ‘22, we tried their line for the 1st time. Historically speaking, this was the only time the Paris Smokeasy Cigar Club could not rate a cigar. It wasn't a flavor problem, it was a cigar problem. Rigby's reached out to give them some feedback. The short version is in their 1st year of production, they had some boxes that made it out of the factory without being draw tested. A few of those boxes had been sitting in Rigby's Aging Humidor. After hearing what happened, they immediately asked if they could come to Paris. Gary put me in contact with Douglas and this was their reply:

On behalf of my brother and I, we greatly appreciate you guys giving us a second crack at this. We make products that are meant to make people happy and when this does not happen we take it personally as it is our reputation and our name on the box. As explained to Gary, we are very sorry you folks were the unlucky recipient of a set of bad boxes. Unfortunately, we knew there was a possibility that a few cigars out of over 3000 boxes had a draw issue in early 2021 as myself and Bryant came across 2-3 stix that were produced during a transitional period at the factory and the boxes in question got lost in the shuffle. Since then we have made major strides to ensure optimal quality. We also implemented a traceability process for accountability purposes. We never received any negative feedback from customers until Gary reached out. We are confident you will not relive this experience and we thank you once again for the opportunity and invitation to come up to Paris TX and meet the crew..…… We have been waiting for Rigby's to open anyways as we just knew we wanted to partner up with folks like the Flynn's.

Knowing they are into golf with their Bocock Golf Apparel, we scheduled them for a "Mulligan Smoke." Having owners come from Houston and Honduras to little ole Paris Texas, truly defines customer service. They did not have to do that. They could have chalked it up to a quality control problem that is now fixed and thanks for your feedback. They could have just sent a couple of boxes up to Gary to pass out to members and called it a day. But no, they insisted on personally coming to re-smoke the cigar with the club. That April ’22 Mulligan Smoke was significant as it introduced us to their line dedicated to their love of travel. They were the 1st Owners of a Cigar Label we have ever hosted. It was the best club event to date and 2nd only to the Grand Opening of Rigby's The Bocock Brothers World Traveler Maduro in a 6" x 52-gauge Toro was named as the 2022 Paris Smokeasy #1 Cigar of the Year (COTY) with a 94/100 Redneck Ratin.

The club invited the brothers back for 2023 so we could try another one of their lines and present them with some much-earned hardware. I asked a few questions before the event. "Where have y’all been lately?" "How is business?" and "What is your Crown Jewel?" They have traveled to Germany, London, Argentina, Honduras, Nicaragua, Uruguay, Peru, and Colombia for accounts recently with sales now in UAE, Wales, and Brazil. The last 2 years have seen a 200% year-to-year growth. Their strategy is simple – relationships! They want premium partners, smaller distributors, and shop owners who are committed to the business. Their Crown Jewel is the humidor going in the Ritz Carlton JBR Dubai UAE which is a 7 Diamond Hotel (just over $1000 for the cheapest room on an off night) ….and of course, they said Rigby's in Paris, TX!

With 59 people at this April's event, we smoked the Bocock Brothers Signature Edition Toro in a 6" x 54-gauge. Unlike the "World Traveler" line made in Honduras with Plasencia, this line is made with AJ Fernandez and production handled in Nicaragua. The Brothers were blessed to partner with Mr. AJ, as he won "FACTORY OF THE YEAR" in the The Consensus 2022 | halfwheel for a 2nd time, has the #4 factory, and 5 other lines he produced placed #2, #4, #7, #12, and #19 in the Top 25 Cigar List. Now owning a cigar company, it seemed fitting to honor and dedicate this "Signature" blend to their father, Roberto Bocock. It was he who instilled a love for fine cigars in them. On the "Signature Edition" band, it bears his "Bocock" signature. It has a Nicaraguan Filler, Nicaraguan Habano Binder, and is finished in an Ecuadorian Sumatra Wrapper. It ended the night with a Redneck Ratin’ of 93/100!

Describing the Bocock Brothers last year, I said "This is the definition of the passion they have for their cigars! This is how you define a label!" To have "World Traveler" owners of an international business take time to visit us a 2nd time, that's just crazy! A year ago, they sat in Rigby's while under construction. This year they walked through the doors and could not believe their eyes. They celebrated not only their COTY victory but the opening of Rigby's as an Exquisite Cigar Lounge, this is how they define their motto of #becocky!
